Nicole - Brochure Cover

I chose to do a design like this because my brochure is attracting CEO's of pulp factories (factories that make large fiber boards that get turned into paper). The image I chose is from thinkstock and it does have a watermark over the green, but since the green is such a solid color i was able to cover it with a solid box of the same green just for the purpose of seeing this design.

The idea I had with this was that they are tearing away the past for a more green future that will help not only working conditions in these factories but the environment as a whole. I felt as though having the MBDC logo as a deep brown color and the leaf at the end, it would resemble the colors of trees, which is what pulp mills need in order to make the fiber boards.

Please let me know how you feel about the placement of the leaf in the logo as well as the color green I chose for the sub heading. I would like to keep it green to match the leaf in the logo, but if its too hard on the eyes I will change it.

  1. Hello Nicole, I really like your cover. However, I can see that the green is not really center. is it something that you wanted to be? Also the green color of the headline bothers my eyes a little bit. it is too light I think. So I was thinking about the "beige" or white color for the headline.

  2. Nicole I really like this image for your cover and especially the reasoning behind it is a nice conceptual idea. I love the font you chose for the MBDC, is it helvetica? I also like how you incorporated the leaf into the logo, very nice! I was thinking maybe you can play around with the tracking between the letters of MBDC just so they have equal spacing. I also agree with Sarah that the small text in green might blend too much with the background. I agree with Sarah that beige might be a nice substitute. Great work!

  3. Nicole – clever concept, and the “looking inside” idea works well for what MBDC does to the chemical components of materials. The feedback you have received above concerns the green on green tagline – which is hard to read. I would suggest you use a higher contrasting color for that tagline and/or tone down the green a bit.

Logo: The leaf has not quite found its place yet, I think. Is it too large? It needs to not cover the C so much, because I’m also going to suggest it be the same color as the letters. Consider working with this in b/w for a moment – to find the correct “shape” of the intersection of leaf and letter. Then, don’t let the leaf appear as separate or just sitting on top – instead integrate it into the letter itself. After you have solved this relationship issue in b/w please reconsider using the dull brown. It might be ok, but I bet you can find a more brilliant color that will make MBDC appear contemporary, exciting, and the future of design. Even white against the green background (if you stick with that) would be a better, higher contrast, solution.

Since your audience makes paper, why not use an interesting texture on the white of the cover here? Recycled paper often has flecks of other colors in it – very subtle, but it would add another element to the cover. OR – consider adding texture to the shape behind the logo. Wherever it appears, texture would be a good thing to consider.
